The Zevolution starts here

We are issuing in a new era.  Personal transformations across the globe are leading the changes we seek to see in the world.  Individually, we are experiencing intense desires to see rapid change.  We are becoming increasingly aware that our ways of life have not been sustainable... nor nearly what they COULD be.  Gurus, poems, breakthroughs in awareness, films, and interactions with others have been building up our awareness that we are all one, that we are the masters of our destiny, and that anything is possible.  With this realization, profound changes are occuring.

Exciting, isn't it? But where do you and I fit in?  If you're like me, you'd like to see your capacity to be the change significantly expand.  But how?  How can we be the change?

It STARTS with You and I.  With Us.  Change the world? start with yourself.

       "
One can have no smaller or greater mastery than mastery of oneself."

                                                  ~
Leonardo Da Vinci

The Ancient Chinese knew this principle of leadership - that it begins with the self and slowly expands outwards.  To your room, your home, your community, your city, your country - however far your vision takes you.

Thus, the first step is personal mastery.  Being the change and translating that awareness to a way of living requires that you master your own way of living.

Peter Senge says, “Personal mastery goes beyond competence and skills…it means approaching one’s life as a creative work, living life from a creative as opposed to a reactive viewpoint.”

Personal mastery is about creating what one wants in life and in work. Continually expanding personal mastery is a discipline based on a number of key principles and practices: personal vision, personal purpose, holding creative tension between vision and current reality, mitigating the impact of deeply rooted beliefs that are contrary to personal mastery, commitment to truth, and understanding the subconscious.

Practitioners of personal mastery exhibit the following characteristics

  • They have a sense of purpose that lies behind their goals
  • Their vision is more like a calling than a good idea
  • They see current reality as an ally, not an enemy
  • They are committed to seeing reality increasingly accurately
  • They are extremely inquisitive
  • They do not resist, but work with, the forces of change
  • They feel connected to others and to life itself
  • They feel that they are part of a larger creative process that they can influence but cannot unilaterally control

  • Senge links personal mastery to effective leadership stating, “The core leadership strategy is simple: be a model. Commit yourself to your own personal mastery.”
  • Personal Mastery starts with personal vision.  As is stated in the Conversations with God books, the question is "what is the greatest version of the grandest vision you've ever had about yourself?" What would you do if you could do anything? What would your ideal life be like? What would you have accomplished at the age of 25? at 40? at 60? at 80?

Continually 'holding' that vision within your mind, heart and consciousness while accurately assesing and being aware of your current reality creates 'creative tension.'  This gap in reality activates your subconscious to continually transform your current reality to match your vision - as long as you hold that vision firmly, and as long as you believe that you are capable of reaching that vision.

Beliefs are incredible things.  They hold immense power to shape your reality, and unless you have examined them carefully, you may not be able to get anywhere.  What are your limiting beliefs? How can you replace them with empowering ones?  Tony Robbins handles this question with 'frames of reference' which are memories or experiences that support a particular belief.  The more frames of reference for empowering beliefs (like the time you accomplished x supported the belief that I can do anything I put my mind to) the more those beliefs become anchored and empower you to achieve your vision.

The first steps are thus to create a powerful personal vision - one that inspires and excites you - and to mould your belief system to support that vision.

After these steps have been achieved, look towards your skills, talents, and capacities.  Are your talents in alignment with your vision?  Are you combining what you'd love to do with what you're good at? Find where these concentric circles overlap and focus there.  Consistently.  And build upon your capacities and talents in those areas.

Stephen Covey and many other personal mastery gurus refer to habits.  This is another word for consistent action.  When our vision is translated into achievable goals, milestones, or measurable results along the path of implementing our vision, personal masters focus their action towards achievement of these goals.  It's the action plan.

The tricky thing about action plans is that goals are usually only achieved with consistent action towards a stated objective.  It's like an athlete can't all of a sudden break the world record - she has to practice, train, and consistently do her best while on the field to beat that record.  It's the same for us in terms of achieving our goals - they require consistent action.

When our actions are aligned with our talents, aligned with our beliefs, and with our vision, we begin to see our current reality change.  The gap between your vision and your current reality begins to decrease.  Your Environment begins to reflect your vision.

This model / paradigm / structure for looking at personal mastery and realizing your vision is called the model of change.  It can be applied to your self, your organization, your community, your country, whatever.  It's awesome and incredibly useful for implementing your zevolution.

    Questions for you to consider:

Got your personal vision written down? Collaged?

Examined your values and beliefs and created a powerful foundation?

Been enhancing your skills and talents that are in alignment with your vision?

Created a list of short and long term goals to track your progress towards your vision? Are you taking action towards these goals on a consistent basis?

Are you shaping your environment in alignment with your vision?  Is your (created) environment supporting you to reach this vision?

Have you answered 'yes' to all these questions yet?
